During the summer of 2024, Rother Valley Way volunteers attended a series of local events, handing out leaflets that linked to a community survey.
The survey asked whether people had heard of the project, how they might use the proposed path, and what benefits they believed it could bring to the local area.
Thanks to media coverage across several outlets, the survey reached a wide audience, garnering nearly 1,000 responses from as far afield as East Sussex, Winchester, and Guildford. Encouragingly, 98% of respondents said they would use the path.
Most indicated they would walk or cycle it for leisure, while many others said they would use it for commuting to work, school, or the shops—helping to reduce car use.
There was also strong support from runners, horse riders, and mobility scooter users.
When asked about the potential benefits of the project, respondents highlighted that the flat, all-weather track would:
Offer a safe, traffic-free route for everyone—particularly families with young children and those with disabilities;
Improve access to the countryside, supporting mental health and wellbeing;
Provide a boost for local businesses.

The cycle path is very much a community initiative, so if you feel you have skills and time to contribute we'd welcome your support. Roles that we are particularly looking to fill include:
Communications support - to include SEO help
Project planning & delivery support
Mapping/GIS support
Funding Strategy & Grant Applications
